The Same End

No matter what banner they march under, in the end, they are all covered with the same cloth.

With this piece I wanted to stylistically show the harsh brutality of a soldier's life in Mytheora - my fantasy world that I am creating and developing through illustrations and writing.

No matter the faction, kingdom, empire, dutchy, clan, federation, horde, or fiefdom, all soldiers and warriors meet the same end.

Featured are the infantry of the three major powers in the current timeline of my fantasy works - The Kingdom of Tollossia, The Nemean Empire of Skodros, and The Elbian Empire.

I love ancient and medieval warfare reconstructions - the armor, the pageantry, the weapons, the banners - all of it. However, I do not love war, or the idea of it.

So, in a way, this is my attempt to show my love of the medieval fantasy panoply of war, distilled into my fantastical factions, while highlighting the sad reality of war: that there are no winners in the business of death and destruction.
