Nestor - Minoran Estate Guardsman

This is Nestor. He is an NPC from a homebrew D&D campaign I run called "Dungeons and Debtors: Everything Has a Price".

Nestor here is an estate guardsman from the lovely green island of Minora. As an estate guard, he has to keep a watchful eye over the many estates dotted around the island.

Minora is a republic ruled by a council of elected officials. These leaders occupy the island's estates for the duration of their term, which is two years. To spare Minora from infighting and needless civil conflict, the council contracts the Guards Guild to look after the estates. This means that the guardsmen - like Nestor, are tied to the estate they guard, and not to the council member that occupies it. This practice has been going on for centuries on Minora, ever since the island's independence from the Arneans on the mainland. And so, it has become a sort of tradition for the elites and commoners alike.

The guards themselves rotate between the estates on a two-year basis, so that way any given official will be placed in an estate with randomly selected guards. This prevents a build-up of loyal guards over a longer period and prevents the guards from becoming too attached to any particular part of Minora.

Beautiful, green Minora is mostly inhabited by elves. There are some dwarves and a few humans on the island, but the majority of the populous is elven. With Nestor here, it'd be hard to tell given his thick beard and mustache - a common fashion of male elven on the isle. his helmet also helps hide, but more importantly, protect his pointy ears.

Nestor has served as a guard for about 150 years now - almost half his life. He finds his work boring, for not much happens on peaceful green Minora. However, the pay is good and he gets to travel the breathtaking landscape of his island home. Times are tough on the isle as of late, so his family appreciates Nestor's sacrifice to boredom - the coin helps a lot. And although he dreads time away from his loving wife and children, Nestor is a diligent elf and will do his duty.
