"He stands on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the waves below. The sea grows restless, as does his soul; he knows that come the morn, the green sea will flow red with blood.
His armor and weapons - the proud panoply of a Namorian marine - weigh on him like a stone that would drag him to the deepest depths of the sea. Perhaps there he will find peace. Yet what good is peace to him if it means terror for his family?
So he stands, overlooking the sea that will carry him to his end, enjoying the green before it turns to red."
As the text above suggests, this marine is contemplating giving up before a big battle. One of the many themes I want to explore with this world-building project is the weight placed on those who go to war and defend their homes in the name of the realm. The moral struggles they would face, and so on.
I love drawing ancient and medieval-inspired fantasy soldiers and warriors, but I myself am no fan of war. I love the panoply, the arms and armor, but not the carnage and horror. So, I want to bring a bit of that into the stories and artworks I'd make for my Namorian project.
This image itself is part one of a three-part mini-series I'm calling "Namorian Scenes" - not the most creative name, I know, but it does the job for now. With this mini-series of artworks, I aim to explore the theme of war and the tragedy it brings to the people it engulfs.
I had a lot of fun with this piece, and hope y'all will like it as well.
