ArctoSim

Arctodus Simus, the short-faced bear - one of my favorite mammals from the last ice age. It Lived in North America from about 1.8 mya to around 11.000 years ago.

Wanted to give this illustration a little lighthearted nature, so I depicted the bear having its tongue stung by a wasp. Usually, prehistoric predators (especially ice age ones) tend to be illustrated during a kill or fighting among themselves. I though of showing another, maybe slightly goofy side to the story. I mean, a bear can be stung by a wasp, right?

Final Look (switched up the lighting from the flats and made it a lot warmer, which I think suits the illustration more)

FLATS (went with cold, muted tones to depict an ice-age environment, but felt the piece was bit well, flat)

Ink (made the lines thicker, gave the whole thing more weight)

Original Sketch (fun little idea I had, so I decided to sketch it out and the rest happened by itself)
